The Bears look to clench the regular season championship title this weekend, facing Eastern Washington and Idaho
GREELEY, Colo. - Northern Colorado (11-6-0, 6-1 Big Sky) women's soccer is coming up on the end of their 2015 regular season, having just three more games to play. This weekend, the Bears will play on their home field facing Eastern Washington (11-3-1, 5-2-0 Big Sky) on Friday night (Oct. 23, 7:00PM) and Idaho (11-4-1, 7-0-0 Big Sky) on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 25, 1:00PM).
Both games this weekend will play a factor in who hosts the Big Sky Championships, set for Nov. 5-8. So far, this is the first year since joining the Big Sky that the Bears have had more than five wins in Conference play, with the potential to pick up three more.
In their 12th all-time meeting with the Eagles (series stands at 6-3-2), the Bears look to further secure and improve their ranking in the conference (currently #2) with a seventh Big Sky win. The Bears have won the last two meetings against Eastern Washington, with a 1-0 win away in 2014, and a 2-1 win in Greeley in 2013. The regular season games against EWU in 2012 and 2011 both resulted in ties, and the 2010 and 2009 season resulted in huge wins for the Bears over the Eagles, 3-0 and 4-0, respectively.
Friday night's game is also the annual "Pack the Jack" game, in which fans, students, and the like are invited out to help break the current Jackson Stadium attendance record. The record currently sits just under 1000. "Bears Supporting Bears" will also seek to bring out fellow UNC athletes to help support the soccer team in their fight for the championship.
Additionally, this game will serve as the team's Pink Game, where they will show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness by wearing various articles of pink, and Faculty/Staff Appreciation night, where members of the team present their favorite faculty or staff member to the crowd in recognition of all they've done, will also occur before the game against Eastern Washington.
Sunday's game against Idaho will be the main deciding game for who hosts the Championships, and the Bears will seek to pick up their second win over the Vandals in their totaled five meetings. Their sole win over Idaho came in 2009, 1-0, at the Boise State Tournament. The Vandals are currently undefeated in Big Sky play (7-0-0).
Sunday is also Senior Day, and the Bears will honor five seniors as they play their final game in Jackson Stadium.
