O'AHU, Hawai'i – The women's golf team finished its fall season with the final round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Thursday.
Northern Colorado sat in 8th place heading into the finale and remained there, earning yet another Top 10 finish of the fall season.
The Bears finished with a 910 (308-298-304=+46) after 54 holes of play at the par 72 Leilehua Golf Course.
"Unfortunately today we had too many big numbers early on in our round which made it tough for us to climb up the leaderboard," head coach Stephen Bidne said. "We were able to settle down and find a rhythm and we finished strong on our closing holes."
As she did in round one, senior Amanda Myers led the team during the final day. Myers pushed out a 75 (+3), the same score she had in the first round of the tournament.
The senior fired a team-high 14 pars en route to an overall score of 227 (75-77-75=+11). Myers cracked into the Top 30 on the leaderboard, finishing 30th overall.
Both junior Baile Winslow and sophomore Christina Ferreira posted rounds of 76 (+4) to end their invites.
Winslow put together a strong front nine, finishing at -1 under, but got into trouble on the latter half of the course, scoring a +5 over on the back.
She had the best overall tournament, signing off on a 225 (76-73-76=+9) and earned a Top 25 nod, coming in 20th place.
Ferreira's round was also a tale of two nines. She did some damage control on the front nine, marking three birdies, including two back-to-back, after holing two bogeys and a double to finish at +1 over.
Besides a setback on the 11th hole, where she tripled, the sophomore went on a par run of seven straight to walk off the back nine +3 over.
Ferreira boasted a 229 (79-74-76=+13) overall, good for 35th.
Junior Jordan Sunset had her best 18 holes of the tournament in the final round, firing a 77 (+5). Sunset ended the last day with respectable nine pars and two birdies, but much like Winslow, she also had trouble on the back nine, carding five bogeys.
Sunset completed her tournament in Hawai'i with a 234 (78-79-77=+18) total, tying for 45th.
Fellow junior Kala Keltz wrapped up the scoring for the team. Keltz tallied an 80 (+8), the same finish she had in round one.
Keltz completed the three-day meet with also with a 234 (80-74-80=+18), tying with Sunset for 45th.
"Even though we didn't play to our potential today, I'm proud of the direction this team is heading in," Bidne added. "We have come a long way as a team and it's all due to everyone buying in on the process of hard work and getting better. They have done a great job both in the classroom and on the course this fall and I'm looking forward to continuing our great success this spring."
#34 ranked BYU was the team champion of the tournament. The Cougars totaled an 863 (295-289-279=-1), winning the meet by 23 strokes. BYU's Rose Huang earned the individual title with a -5 under par invite.
That completes the Bears fall schedule. The team will take the winter off and be back next spring, competing in the Grand Canyon Invitational Feb. 22-24.
