Stephanie Lee entered into the 1,000 point club in the Bears 84-43 loss to South Florida
TAMPA, Fla.—Stephanie Lee (Casper, Wyo.) scored her 1,000th career point Wednesday night in women's basketball game against South Florida. The career achievement night ended in a loss for Lee and the Bears, falling 84-43.
Lee entered the game needing just one point to make it to the elite club, and got it early. One minute and fourteen seconds into the game she made a layup and was fouled, getting the three point play the old fashion way, pushing her over 1,000 points. Lee is one of only 19 players in Northern Colorado's women's basketball history to achieve the mark.
Lee finished the night as the team's leading scorer with 17 points, she added four rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
After Lee made the basket UNC was held scoreless for eleven minutes and fourteen seconds. During this time USF went on a 27-0 run, never letting the Bears get close.
South Florida entered halftime with a 51-12 lead.
"We were a shell of ourselves in the first half and did not compete well," said head coach Kamie Ethridge.
In the second half Northern Colorado more than doubled their offensive output from the first half, with 31 points.
"We got good production in the second half from Stephanie Lee and some of our younger players," Ethridge said. "I was very proud of the way we played in the second half, if we play like that for a whole game we can compete against anyone."
Savannah Scott (Campbell, Calif.) scored five of her career high eight points in the second half, she led UNC with three assists, also a career high.
D'shara Strange (Fountain) joined Scott with eight points as the team's second leading scorer. Strange led all Northern Colorado players with eight rebounds.
The Bears will close out their three game road trip against Florida Gulf Coast on Friday at 2:35 p.m. MST.
