The Northern Colorado football team (2-6, 1-4 Big Sky) heads to Davis, California this Saturday, Nov. 1 to take on the Aggies of UC Davis (1-6, 0-4 Big Sky). The Bears are looking to snap a nine-game road losing skid and a five-game losing streak against UC Davis. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. (MT)
LAST GAME:
The Bears (2-6, 1-4 Big Sky) were searching for answers on defense against Idaho State (5-3, 3-1 Big Sky) last Saturday. The Bengals' offensive presence was too much to handle as the Bears dropped the contest, 46-12.
Backup junior quarterback, Jonathan Newsom led the UNC passing attack, going 10-19-1 for 171 yards and two touchdowns in just two quarters of play after replacing starting sophomore QB, Sean Rubalcaba in the second half.
Northern Colorado redshirt freshman, Brandon Cartagena once again took top honors in the rush game, gaining 42 yards on six attempts.
Junior wide out, Sean Leslie picked up most of his receptions in the second half, tallying 68 yards on four catches and adding a touchdown in the loss.
Defensively for UNC, sophomore DB Taylor Risner, junior DB, A.J. Battle, and junior DB, Trevor Douglass all finished the day with nine tackles.
Â
UC DAVIS:
Ben Scott threw for 257 yards and four touchdowns and the UC Davis defense gave the Aggies' a late chance to tie the game, but No. 7/6 Montana was able hold off the Aggies' upset bid for a 42-28 Big Sky win on Saturday afternoon.
Receiver Ramon Vargas went over the 100-yard plateau for the second straight game, hauling in eight passes for 129 yards while catching touchdown passes covering nine and 15 yards. Scott completed 20 of 37 passes for 257 yards in his second career start and didn't have an interception.
Gabe Manzanares followed up his 142-yard performance against Montana State last week with 19 carries for 110 yards against the Grizzlies on Saturday. He caught three passes for 24 yards, including an eight-yard TD pass late in the second quarter that gave the Aggies their only lead, 14-7.
Safety Keleen Culberson had nine tackles for the Aggies while cornerback Shamawn Wright, linebacker Artice Nelson and linebacker Ryan Bua each had seven stops.
