LARAMIE, Wyo. - For the second time this season, Northern Colorado senior 141-pounder Kenny Hashimoto has been named the Western Wrestling Conference wrestler of the week.
Hashimoto, 15-6 on the year and 8-3 in duals, went 2-0 in a pair of home duals over the weekend for the Bears.
Against Air Force last Friday, Hashimoto exacted revenge with a 10-5 decision victory over Cole VonOhlen, ranked eighth in the most recent RPI. Earlier this year, VonOhlen had won an overtime battle between the two at the Cowboy Open, the first tournament of the year. Hashimoto's points on Friday secured the Bear's dual victory over the Falcons.
Then, against South Dakota State on Sunday, Hashimoto won a 6-4 decision against Dustin Walraven as the Bears defeated the Jackrabbits, 28-15.
This is the third award for a Bears wrestler this season as Justin Gaethje also was named wrestler of the week on Dec. 15.
The Western Wrestling Conference is comprised of seven schools including the Air Force Academy, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, Utah Valley and Wyoming.
Hashimoto and the rest of the Northern Colorado wrestling team will be in action for the final time at home on Wednesday as they host Utah Valley at 7:00 p.m.
