Patrick Kies was brought on board the Northern Colorado softball program in October 2012 -- shortly after Shana Easley was hired as the program's next head coach.
Kies came to the Bears after spending 2012 at St. Louis, where he served an outfield, catching and hitting coach while also assisting in recruiting duties. During his time with the Billikens, he saw the team lead the Atlantic-10 Conference in stolen bases while his catchers made just three errors on the season. His group of catchers also excelled in throwing out runners attempting to steal -- as the group finished second in the A-10 in runners caught stealing.
Before St. Louis, Kies spent two years alongside Easley on the staff of UMKC. While an assistant for the Kangaroos, he served as the hitting and outfield coach while also helping coach the infield.
In 2011, with the help of Kies' coaching, the 'Roos took home their first Summit League regular season title since 2003. That team set school records for wins, longest winning streak, conference wins and winning percentage.
Kies has also spent time as a coach for Kansas City Zephyrs Gold ASA team -- a club softball squad. He was with the Zephyrs from 2004-09.
Kies graduated from Arkansas in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in recreation with an emphasis in community sports. During his time with the Razorbacks, he served as the team manager while Easley served as a graduate assistant.
He graduated from UMKC with a master's degree in higher education administration in 2011.
Since joining the coaching staff, the team has set multiple single-season team records:
Offensive records set since 2013:
274 Runs (2014)
53 Home Runs (2014)
248 RBIs (2014)
635 Total Bases taken (2014)
.492 Slugging Percentage (2015)
