Originally from Columbus, NE, Ek graduated from Columbus High School in 2012. Went on to play baseball at Hutchinson Community College in 2013-2014 being the starting short stop both years while getting an Associates Degree. He continued playing at University of Northern Colorado in 2015-2016 studying Sports an Exercise Science with an emphasis on coaching. Ek started at short stop for both years and was part of the first WAC tournament appearance in 2015 and then again in 2016.
After playing he continued school and helped out with the team in any way possible. In the spring of 2018 he was hired on to be the volunteer assistant working with the infielders/first base coach and director of ops. Ek will start his first full season this year with the same title.
