Dan Martony joined the coaching staff of UNC baseball in August of 2020. He serves as the team's pitching coach.
Martony came to Northern Colorado from Abilene Christian where he coached for the shortened 2020 season. He coached one of the top pitchers in the Southland Conference when the season was suspended in Austin Wagner. Wagners ranked in the top 10 in ERA and stuck out 22 batters to walking just one.Â
Before coaching at ACU, he was at his alma mater, Oral Roberts, for two seasons. In 2018 ORU's staff led the Summit League in ERA and strikeouts. Four of the pitchers from that staff went on to be drafted into the MLB.Â
As a player, Martony pitched collegiately at ORU under current Oklahoma State Pitching Coach Rob Walton. During his three seasons, he totaled 45 appearances, with a 9-1 record along with a pair of saves. Following his college career, Martony went on to pitch professionally with the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League and the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the American Association.
Â
He earned his B.A. in Psychology and is pursuing a Master’s of Education in School Administration both from ORU. He is joined in Greeley by his wife Emily and son Tate.
