FARGO, N.D. – Northern Colorado baseball closed out its weekend in strong fashion Sunday afternoon, defeating North Dakota State, 9-7, at Newman Outdoor Field to secure the series victory.
The Bears used timely hitting and a dominant relief outing to overcome an early deficit, collecting 13 hits and plating runs in four different innings to claim the rubber match.
Northern Colorado fell behind early after North Dakota State pushed across three runs in the first and added another in the second. The Bears responded in the second inning with two runs before breaking through in the middle innings.
UNC took control with a three-run fourth inning and followed with another three-run frame in the fifth to build an 8-5 advantage. The Bison threatened late, but the Bears added an insurance run in the eighth and held on down the stretch to secure the 9-7 win.
Sam Pease led the offensive charge with a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with a double, four RBI and two runs scored.
Jaden Stone added a pair of hits and drove in two runs, while Ethan Mooser finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk. Easton Bryant provided a spark off the bench, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Brett Barber also contributed with a two-RBI effort, helping power a balanced UNC attack that produced eight runs.
After Trevor Landen worked the first three innings, Lucas Stone delivered a strong relief performance to earn the win. Stone tossed six innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out seven and not issuing a walk. His effort stabilized the game after the early deficit and allowed the Bears' offense to take control.
