ST. GEORGE, Utah - Northern Colorado baseball turned in a strong, resilient effort on both sides of the ball, but ultimately came up just short in a 6–4 walk-off loss to the Trailblazers on Sunday afternoon at Bruce Hurst Field.
Northern Colorado put consistent pressure on Utah Tech's pitching throughout the afternoon, finishing with 11 hits and multiple quality at-bats up and down the lineup. Jaden Stone led the offensive charge with a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate, adding an RBI and a sacrifice bunt, while Logan Pruski continued his strong series by going 2-for-3 with an RBI, a double, and two walks.
The Bears broke through in the fifth inning with a three-run rally to erase a two-run deficit. Easton Bryant delivered the biggest swing of the frame with a two-run single, and Pruski followed with an RBI double to tie the game at 2–2. The surge reflected Northern Colorado's steady approach at the plate, as the Bears worked counts, forced pitching changes and kept traffic on the bases. After Utah Tech briefly regained the lead early, the Bears answered again in the eighth inning. Pinch hitter Ethan Sanchez reached and later scored to even the game at 4–4, giving UNC renewed momentum heading into the final frame.
On the mound, the Bears pieced together a solid outing from start to finish. Brady Hudson provided a steady four-inning start, allowing just two runs while striking out four. The bullpen followed with effective work from Mason Bright and Mitch Haythorn, helping the Bears keep the game within reach.
Despite the strong all-around performance, Utah Tech secured the win in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the ninth, as the Trailblazers connected on a walk-off grand slam.
ON DECK: Northern Colorado baseball continues their road swing with a two-game midweek series in Las Vegas, Nevada against Mountain West opponent UNLV. First pitch is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3 at 7:05 p.m. MT.
