GREELEY, Colo. - Northern Colorado wrestling battled throughout the lineup on Friday night but ultimately fell to No. 18 Wyoming, 25–10, in a dual that featured multiple tightly contested bouts and bonus-point wins.
Northern Colorado earned three victories on the night, beginning at 133 pounds where No. 11 Dominick Serrano put together one of the Bears strongest performances of the dual. Serrano controlled the action from start to finish, securing a 15–3 major decision over Luke Willochell to get UNC on the board.
The Bears picked up their second win at 157 pounds as Daishun Powe turned in a complete effort, earning an 11–4 decision over Antonio Avila. At 174, Murphy Menke delivered a clutch performance in one of the closest bouts of the night, defeating Riley Davis in a 2–2 tiebreaker to account for Northern Colorado's third victory.
Wyoming claimed the other seven bouts to pull away in the team score, including a technical fall at 141 pounds and major decisions at 184 and 197. Several matches were decided by narrow margins, including a one-point decision at 165 and a 1–0 heavyweight bout, as both teams traded momentum across the middle of the dual.
Despite the final score, Northern Colorado showed resilience across the lineup, highlighted by bonus-point production from Serrano and competitive efforts in multiple weight classes as the Bears continue their late-season push.
UP NEXT: UNC wrestling will turn their attention to their last home dual against Utah Valley on Sunday, February 15, in a match up that will serve as Senior Day for the Bears. The dual is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. MT, with four preliminary matches set to start at 12:15 p.m. MT.
