Bears Drop Narrow 21–17 Decision to Utah Valley in Home Finale

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado Bears wrestling put together a strong home performance on Sunday afternoon but came up just short in a 21–17 dual loss to Utah Valley inside Bank of Colorado Arena.
Northern Colorado earned five wins in the official bouts and stayed within striking distance throughout the lineup, with several matches coming down to late points and overtime situations that kept the team score tight deep into the dual.
At 133 pounds, No. 10 Dominick Serrano continued his dominant season, recording a 13–1 major decision. With the victory, Serrano closed out a perfect 13–0 record at Bank of Colorado Arena, capping an undefeated home slate this season.
The Bears added four more wins across the middle and upper weights to maintain momentum.
At 157, Daishun Powe picked up a 6–1 decision.
At 165, Kilian Schultz followed with a 14–6 major decision.
At 174, Murphy Menke earned an 8–5 sudden-victory win, and at 184, Mahonri Rushton added a 2–1 tiebreaker victory.
Utah Valley built its advantage with bonus-point wins in the early and late portions of the dual, which ultimately proved to be the difference in the final team score despite the Bears success through the middle of the lineup

Three exhibition bouts followed the dual and highlighted additional depth for Northern Colorado.
At 149 pounds, Jake Castagneto earned a fall over Tobey Ravida at 2:24.
At 165, Trevor Frank posted a 5–3 decision over Logan Glynn.
At 184, Christian Smoot collected a 9–0 major decision against Bryce Garcia.
UP NEXT: The Bears will prepare for their final dual of the season heading to Air Force on Sunday February 22. The dual is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. MT.
