OGDEN, Utah – Northern Colorado dropped its first conference match of the season Thursday, falling 2-1 at Weber State.

"It was a good back-and-forth match," head coach Tim Barrera said. "Always tough on the road, and they play well at home. We certainly didn't generate as much attack as we would have liked. Every player that got out there stepped up and played hard, and we were in it right until the end."

The Bears are now 7-6-4 overall and 4-1-2 in Big Sky play. Weber State improves to 9-6-2 and 5-1-1.

Yarnell Strikes First
Sunnie Yarnell put Northern Colorado ahead in the 21st minute, scoring unassisted for her second goal of the season. It was one of only four shots the Bears managed on the night, three of them on target.

Weber State Answers
The Wildcats leveled six minutes before halftime when Lily Blum scored her 11th goal of the season, with Bonnie Buswell providing the assist. Blum finished with three shots, all on target, and is the conference's leading scorer.

Weber State took the lead for good in the 49th minute, Simone Packer converting an Oakley Anderson assist for her fourth goal of the year.

Melsted Keeps It Close
Thordis Melsted made eight saves on the night, her second-highest total of the season, as the Wildcats outshot the Bears 15-4 and put ten attempts on target.

Weber State held 57 percent of possession and generated six corner kicks to none for Northern Colorado.

What's Left
Barrera said the approach now is to move on quickly.

"This time of year, you've got to have a short memory and you've got to move on," Barrera said. "Things aren't over yet, so still plenty to play for."

The Bears have two matches remaining in the regular season. They travel to Idaho State on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. MT, then close at home against Northern Arizona on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. MT. Northern Colorado remains in position to qualify for the conference tournament.
