Cowgirls Clinch Win on late Score

LARAMIE, Wyo. – The Bears came up just short in a gritty road match up, falling 1-0 to the Wyoming Cowgirls on Thursday evening. Despite 90 minutes of high-energy play and a strong defensive showing, a late goal proved to be the difference in the tightly contested match.

The game remained scoreless until the 81st minute, when Alyssa Glover capitalized on a shot, slotting home the game-winner off an assist from Jennah Wanner. It was the breakthrough Wyoming had been pushing for, and the Bears were unable to find an equalizer in the closing minutes.

Bears goalkeeper Maddie Smith stood tall throughout the match, finishing with seven saves and keeping her team in the game with several key stops.

The Bears now turn their focus to their home opener on Saturday August 23, when they host Fordham. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Jackson Field.

The game will be preceded by a student tailgate in the parking lot featuring free food, games, and activities for all UNC students.
