GREELEY, Colo. – The University of Northern Colorado Women's Basketball program has announced the addition of international guard Erin Powell to the 2025 roster. Powell, who began her collegiate career at the University of Colorado, brings a competitive edge and versatile offensive skillset to the Bears, with three years of eligibility remaining.
Powell has represented Great Britain on the international stage, competing for the U18 national team as a sophomore and junior, and earning a selection to the U20 squad as a senior.
A tough and physical guard, Powell made her presence felt during her freshman season with the Buffaloes, appearing in 19 games. She averaged 2.1 points and 2.1 rebounds in just over 9 minutes per contest, while shooting 76.5% from the free throw line. Highlighting her season was a breakout double-double performance against Big 12 opponent Houston, where she tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds—showcasing her ability to contribute on both ends of the floor.
UNC Head Coach Kristen Mattio praised Powell's energy and fit within the program:
"We are thrilled to have Erin become a Bear! She is a perfect fit for our program both in style of play and how she represents herself off the court. Erin is a tough, physical, and attack-minded guard that can really get going offensively. She can attack to the rim or step out and shoot the three. Her energy and competitive fire is contagious, which will serve her well on the defensive side of the ball. She is a solid rebounder and does not shy away from physicality. Bear fans will love the work ethic she brings on the court as she competes in the Blue and Gold!"
Powell's international background, strong work ethic, and willingness to do the little things on the court make her a valuable addition to the UNC backcourt rotation. Her growth as a freshman at a Power Four program adds experience and maturity to a young Bears squad looking to build momentum heading into next season.
Before beginning her collegiate career, Powell enjoyed a decorated prep career in the United Kingdom. She was named to the Hoopsfix All-Star Classic Game for three consecutive seasons and competed in the Rebound Women's All-Star Game as both a junior and senior. Powell was the WEABL's U17 Player of the Year as a sophomore and helped guide her team to a Northern Conference championship in 2023-24. She earned Northern Conference First Team honors in both her junior and senior seasons and capped off her high school career by being named the WEABL MVP as a senior.
Powell set WEABL records as a junior, averaging 28.5 points per game and posting a remarkable 35.0 efficiency rating. She also ranked fourth in the league in rebounds that season, pulling down 18.8 boards per game.
