Storey Earns Win Striking Out Seven
FARGO, N.D. – The University of Northern Colorado baseball team closed out their series with North Dakota State on Saturday with a 6-4 victory. The Bears jumped out early and held off a late Bison rally to secure the win, improving to 13-24 overall and 6-12 in Summit League play.
UNC came out swinging in the first inning, putting up two runs courtesy of a clutch RBI double by Kai Wagner and a sacrifice fly from Craig Kenny. Wagner's double set the tone for the offense to capitalize on timely hitting and aggressive baserunning throughout the afternoon.
The Bears tacked on two more runs in the fourth, highlighted by an RBI single from Brett Barber and a passed ball that allowed Carter Monda to score. They added what proved to be critical insurance runs in the fifth inning, thanks to a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch drawn by Nick Barber and an RBI groundout from Monda.
On the mound, starter Jake Storey was solid through 5.2 innings, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out seven to earn the win (2-2). The bullpen held strong in the later innings, with Mason Bright, Dylan Smith, Luke Guest, and Brady Hudson combining to navigate a late NDSU push. Hudson shut the door in the ninth to earn the save.
Northern Colorado will return home to face Air Force on Tuesday, April 22 at Jackson Field. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
