Bears Drop Hard-fought Battle Against Utah Valley

GREELEY, Colo. – Brett Barber sparked the offense for Northern Colorado (5-11) against Utah Valley (8-8) Sunday at Jackson Field.

The junior from Aurora, Colo., went 3 for 5 at the plate, including a triple. He drove in three runs and scored two more.

UNC led 6-1 but eventually fell to the Wolverines 14-13. The Bears scored in every inning, except the third and ninth but Utah Valley tallied eight runs in the top of the third.

Northern Colorado trimmed the deficit to 9-8, with a pair of tallies in the fourth. Both sides scored two runs in the fifth and UNC evened the score at 11 on a home run from James Wright in the sixth.

The Wolverines answered with three in the visitors' seventh and held on for the win after surrendering one in the seventh and eighth frames.

Carter Monda, Wright and Brandon Sanchez tallied two hits each. Jake King, Tony Castonguay, Keaton Fisher and Jake Bullard accounted for a knock apiece.

UNC and Utah Valley conclude the five-game wraparound series at noon Monday.
