Bears Fall to Utah Valley in Finale
The transfer from Utah went 3-for-4, with two doubles and a triple in the Bears 17-10 loss to Utah Valley (9-8). He scored three runs and drove in another, with one walk.
AJ Carter, Brett Barber, Kai Wagner and James Wright recorded a hit each. Wagner and Brandon Sanchez each walked a team-high three times. Barber knocked in a pair of runs to pace UNC.
The Bears utilized six pitchers, with Ethan Louthan tossing 2.0 innings and allowing one run on two hits. Jack Tuttle posted zeros in the eighth and ninth innings, retiring six of the eight batters he faced, with one strikeout.
Utah Valley scored in each of the first five frames, building a 13-2 advantage midway through the contest.
UNC closed to within four at 13-9, with two in the fifth, one in the sixth and four runs in the seventh.
The Wolverines answered with four in the top of the eighth, moving the gap out to 17-9. The Bears scratched across a marker in the home half of the frame.
UNC left the bases full in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.
UP NEXT
The Bears open Summit League play at home Friday at 2 p.m. when they host South Dakota State. UNC and the Jackrabbits play at noon Saturday and Sunday.
