GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado volleyball announces the retirement of Associate Head Coach Pi'i Aiu.
Aiu joined the Bears prior to the 2019 season and played a key role in one of the most successful stretches in program history. During his tenure, Northern Colorado captured seven championships, including the most recent Big Sky Tournament title this past season, when the Bears swept the Bengals to earn the program's eighth tournament championship.
Promoted to Associate Head Coach in January 2020, Aiu brought a wealth of experience that helped make Northern Colorado one of the strongest teams in the conference. He coached multiple All-Conference and All-Tournament players throughout his time at UNC.
"Pi'i has been invaluable in his seven years here," said head coach Lyndsey Oates. "His experience and wisdom brought us seven championships, which speaks for itself. He will be remembered for his calm demeanor, casual sense of humor, humility, and fatherly guidance to our players. He will be greatly missed, but we wish him and Holly all the best in retirement".
Aiu arrived in Greeley as one of the most accomplished volleyball coaches in Colorado. Prior to joining Northern Colorado, he spent 12 seasons as head coach at the University of Colorado, where he became the winningest head coach in program history with 199 career victories and wins over 45 nationally ranked opponents. A CU-Boulder alumnus, Aiu previously served as an assistant coach from 1989 to 1997 before being promoted to head coach.
Following his time at Colorado and before arriving at Northern Colorado, Aiu coached club volleyball at The Diff in Brighton, Colorado, and earned respect as a collegiate volleyball official.
Northern Colorado Athletics thanks Pi'i Aiu for his dedication, leadership, and lasting impact on the UNC volleyball program.
His contributions helped elevate the Bears to championship success and left a standard of excellence that will continue to shape the program for years to come.
