UNC Volleyball Falls to Middle Tennessee Friday Night

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Northern Colorado volleyball battled Middle Tennessee Friday night, but ultimately fell 3-1 (24-26, 25-10, 20-25, 22-25) at Alumni Memorial Gym.
The Bears opened the match with a back-and-forth first set, eventually falling 26-24. UNC responded in the second, cruising to a 25-10 victory while hitting .522 as a team and limiting Middle Tennessee offensively.
Middle Tennessee regained momentum in the third set, taking a 25-20 decision before closing out the match with a 25-22 fourth-set victory.
Gillian Walton led the Bears offensively with 15 kills, while Alayna Tessena added 14 kills and hit .278 on the night. Maddie Rink contributed eight kills while posting a team-best .500 hitting percentage and added five service aces.
Nerea Alvarez Jorge orchestrated the UNC offense with 44 assists, while Leila Ballard recorded 12 digs. Bella LePore paced the defensive effort with 14 digs, and Summer Snead added 11 digs to go with eight kills.
As a team, the Bears finished the night hitting .266, collecting 52 kills, 50 assists, nine service aces and 54 digs.
UP NEXT: Northern Colorado will wrap up tournament play Saturday taking on Georgia State. The match is set for 11 a.m. MT.
