Bears Come Up Short Against No. 23 North Carolina on Sunday Afternoon

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Northern Colorado wrestling continued its east cost campaign falling to No. 23 North Carolina on Sunday afternoon 40-0.
Despite the team result, the Bears showed toughness and fight across several weight classes, going the distance in six of the ten bouts.
At 125 pounds, Aydan Thomas battled hard against No. 25 Kysen Terukina, dropping a 6-2 decision in a competitive opener. KJ Evans and Emilio Trujillo also showed promise at 141 and 149, respectively, pushing their Tar Heel opponents deep into regulation before falling in decisions.
Daishun Rowe kept the pressure on throughout his 157-pound bout, while Kilian Schultz nearly upset No. 19 Bryce Hepner, taking the ranked opponent to the wire in an 8-5 loss. At 174, Murphy Menke put together a gritty effort against No. 15 Joshua Ogunsanya, keeping the match within reach until the final period.
In the upper weights, Mahonri Rushton went toe-to-toe with Jake Dailey, falling just short in a tight 4-3 decision at 184 pounds. Andrew Donahue and Enzo Cappabianca closed out the dual for the Bears, competing hard in their respective matches at 197 and heavyweight.

The Bears will shift their focus and prepare for another road dual when they compete in the Nebraska Kearney Tournament on November 22.
