Bears Wrap Up Younes Hospitality Open

KEARNEY, Neb. – The Northern Colorado wrestling squad traveled to the Younes Hospitality Open, hosted by the University of Nebraska–Kearney, where the Bears showcased grit, depth, and competitive fire throughout a full day of action. Against a strong field featuring athletes from multiple conferences and nationally recognized programs, four Bears secured top finishes in their respective weight classes.
Leading the way was Daishun Powe, who turned in an impressive performance in the 157-pound bracket. Powe placed third overall, winning five of his six matches. His run included several tightly contested bouts in which he displayed exceptional discipline, pace control, and mental toughness—setting a strong example for the team.
At 141 pounds, KJ Evans battled through a demanding slate of opponents and earned victories in three of his six matches. His highlight of the tournament came in dominant fashion: a 15-0 technical fall over South Dakota State's Liam Nietzel. Evans' performance added a spark to the Bears' efforts and demonstrated his ability to compete at a high level when the pressure is on.
Logan Glynn also delivered a steady showing in the 165-pound division, notching three wins on the day. Throughout the tournament, Glynn demonstrated composure and on-mat leadership, traits that helped him navigate several challenging match ups and maintain a strong presence in his bracket.
Rounding out Northern Colorado's top performers was Mahonri Rushton, who excelled in the 184-pound weight class. Rushton secured third place, finishing the day with a strong 4-1 record. His consistent execution and resilience helped solidify him as one of the Bears' standout competitors of the tournament.
Overall, the Younes Hospitality Open offered Northern Colorado valuable experience and exposure against top-tier opponents. Multiple Bears stepped up, gaining momentum early in the season while putting their skills on the map against elite competition from across the country.
