GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado swimming & diving delivered a dominant home performance Saturday morning at Butler-Hancock Pool, defeating Cal Baptist 212-88 in the Bears' final dual meet of the fall semester.
UNC opened the day with a statement swim in the 200 medley relay, as the team of Martina Yuki Trionfetti, Maria Erokhina, Ellyson Lombardi, and Alexis Mishler raced to victory in 1:41.26. The performance also secured the Bears an automatic qualifying time for the CSCAA National Invitational Championship.
The Bears' "B" relay of Ariane Bernier, Avi Tromp, Lora Konter, and Vitoria Simioni followed in second (1:44.98), setting the tone for a wire-to-wire team win.
From there, the Bears were nearly unstoppable in the pool. Kyra Rabess delivered a record-breaking performance in the 1000 freestyle, shattering the school record with a time of 9:46.05 — an automatic qualifier for the CSCAA National Invitational. She later returned to win the 500 free (5:01.78), capping off a remarkable day.
Trionfetti swept both the 200 free (1:51.90) and 100 free (50.60) in a standout double-victory effort. Bernier led a 1-2 finish in the 100 backstroke (57.09) ahead of Linnea Haan (57.26) and doubled up with another win in the 200 back (2:03.23). Erokhina continued her strong season with two event titles of her own, taking first in the 100 breast (1:02.26) and 200 breast (2:15.55).
In the butterfly events, Lombardi was untouchable, cruising to a win in the 200 fly (2:00.72) before adding another victory in the 100 fly (54.83). Avi Tromp and Rachel Ley added crucial points in both breaststroke and individual medley events, with Erokhina securing her third win of the meet in the 200 IM (2:07.93).
The Bears' sprint depth also shone, with Mishler (23.20), Simioni (23.79), and Rabess (23.97) sweeping the top three spots in the 50 freestyle.
On the boards, Violet Noel placed second in the 3-meter competition (241.95), while Addison Campbell and Mireya Ruiz earned top-five finishes across both diving events to add to the team total.
UNC closed the meet in emphatic fashion as Trionfetti, Simioni, Rabess, and Lombardi took the 400 free relay in 3:25.97, giving Northern Colorado its 11th event win of the day.
