Northern Colorado Starts Strong at Magnus Cup

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Northern Colorado swimming & diving opened the Magnus Cup Invitational with several strong performances on Thursday, highlighted by a pair of program top-10 times and a silver-medal relay finish.
The Bears set the tone early in the session as the 200 free relay squad of Alexis Mishler, Vitoria Simioni, Ellyson Lombardi, and Martina Yuki Trionfetti raced to a second-place finish in 1:31.87
UNC's quartet held steady in a competitive field, with Trionfetti splitting a 23.02 on the anchor leg to secure the runner-up position. Mishler recorded a 23.02 50 free split, the No. 5 time in UNC history.
Northern Colorado then made noise individually in the 50 freestyle, with another Bear climbing into the program's all-time top-10 list. Simioni recorded a 23.54, tying for No. 10 all-time.
UNC carried its momentum into the stroke events, with Martina Yuki Trionfetti earning a podium finish in the 50 back, placing fourth in 25.32 and Maria Erokhina bringing home the Bears' first event title of the meet with a dominant win in the 50 breaststroke (28.26). Avi Tromp added a sixth-place finish in the same event (29.26) to bolster UNC's early scoring.
Distance standout Kyra Rabess continued her elite form, winning the 500 free in commanding fashion with a 4:52.39; the fastest time of the night and a full five seconds clear of her preliminary swim. Lora Konter joined her in the A final and placed sixth (5:00.98), while Emma On-The-Hill delivered a strong 5:00.11 in the B final for 12th overall.
After the opening day, Northern Colorado holds the second place spot with 371.5 points in the team standings with momentum headed into a full Friday slate.
