11/6/2025 1:21:00 PM | Women's Basketball
GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado women's basketball (1-0) is gearing up for its second home game of the season as the Bears welcome Lamar (0-0) to Bank of Colorado Arena on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. MST.
The Bears are coming off a dominant performance in their season opener on Tuesday night, rolling past Northern New Mexico with a 105-31 victory. It was a statement win for a team looking to establish early momentum under the home lights.
Five Bears scored in double figures, showcasing Northern Colorado's depth and balance on offense. Sophomore Heather Baymon led the charge with a career-high 21 points, including four made three-pointers on eight attempts. Fellow sophomore Neenah George followed closely behind, also posting a career-best 16 points while going 4-of-6 from long range. Senior London Gamble added 13 points, while Lele Tanuvasa and Julia Riley chipped in 10 apiece to round out the team's well-distributed scoring effort.
The Bears' efficiency was on full display — they shot 43.4% from the field and 39.5% from beyond the arc, while racking up 60 bench points, 40 points in the paint, and an impressive 42 points off turnovers. Defensively, Northern Colorado smothered Northern New Mexico, holding the Eagles to just 17.9% shooting overall.
Scouting the Opponent: Lamar Cardinals
Saturday's contest marks the second ever meeting between Northern Colorado and Lamar. The two programs last faced off in 2024, when the Cardinals defended their home court with a 60-43 victory. This time, the Bears will look to flip the script and even the all-time series at one win apiece.
Lamar enters the 2025-26 campaign looking to build on an impressive 2024 season in which the Cardinals finished 22-8 overall and 17-3 in conference play. The Cardinals will provide a strong early-season test for Northern Colorado as both teams continue non-conference action.
