Bears Defeat Eagles 105-31 in Home Opener

GREELEY, Colo. –Northern Colorado women's basketball team tipped off its 2025–26 season in dominant fashion Tuesday night, rolling past Northern New Mexico with a 105–31 victory at Bank of Colorado Arena.
The Bears came out hot from the start, jumping to a 9–0 lead before the Eagles were forced to call an early timeout in the opening quarter. Northern Colorado never slowed down, maintaining high energy and intensity on both ends of the court throughout the game.
Five Bears scored in double figures, highlighting the team's balanced offensive attack. Sophomore Heather Baymon led the way with a career-best 21 points, connecting on 4-of-8 shots from three-point range. Fellow sophomore Neenah George followed with a career-high 16 points, shooting an efficient 4-of-6 from deep. Senior London Gamble added 13 points, while sophomore Lele Tanuvasa and senior Julia Riley each contributed 10 points to round out the scoring effort.
Northern Colorado's defense and fast-paced offense helped the Bears build a commanding 60–9 lead by halftime. The team also dominated the glass, out rebounding the Eagles 63–35, including 26 offensive rebounds that led to second-chance opportunities.
The Bears shot an impressive 43.4 percent from the field and 39.5 percent from beyond the arc, while racking up 60 bench points, 40 points in the paint, and 42 points off turnovers.
With this season-opening win, Northern Colorado set a strong tone for what promises to be an exciting year ahead.
The Bears will now shift their focus to Lamar as they prepare to host the Cardinals on Saturday afternoon. Tip off is set for 2 p.m. MST.
