Bears Stay Strong on Day Two at Magnus Cup

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Northern Colorado continued its strong push at the Magnus Cup Invitational on Friday, stacking up event wins, multiple podium finishes, and five new additions to the program's all-time top-10 list. The Bears sit firmly in second place with 788 points, trailing only Akron heading into Saturday's finale.
UNC opened the night with a statement in the 200 medley relay, as the team of Martina Yuki Trionfetti, Maria Erokhina, Ellyson Lombardi, and Alexis Mishler clocked a 1:40.80 to finish second overall. The Bears' depth showed with the B relay of Bernier, Tromp, Konter, and Simioni placing eighth in 1:44.03.
The standout swims continued in the individual events, headlined by a dominant showing in the 400 IM.
Hlaa Diab claimed the event title in 4:24.85, the No. 4 time in program history.
Agathi Manoli was right behind her, touching in 4:24.86, the No. 5 time all-time.
Audrey Vannelli added depth with an eighth-place finish in 4:33.04.
In the 100 butterfly, Ellyson Lombardi delivered one of the fastest swims in UNC history, posting a 53.84 to finish second, good for No. 3 all-time.
Distance leader Kyra Rabess turned in another podium performance with a second-place finish in the 200 free (1:49.67). Lora Konter placed sixth (1:51.81), and Trionfetti took eighth (1:52.99), with her prelim swim of 1:49.78 marking the No. 5 time in UNC history.
UNC added its second event win of the night in the 100 breaststroke, where Maria Erokhina dominated the field in 1:01.60. Avi Tromp also earned a spot in the record book, posting a 1:03.45, now No. 10 all-time.
The backstroke group capped off individual racing with two top-6 finishes in the 100 back, as Trionfetti (56.09) and Mishler (56.20) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
UNC wrapped the session with a silver in the 800 free relay, as Rabess, Konter, Lombardi, and Trionfetti combined for a 7:29.93, securing valuable team points to keep the Bears in striking distance of first place.

UNC had two divers advance to the B final of the 3-meter event, with Addison Campbell leading the way in 11th place after scoring 234.30, matching her prelim total. Violet Noel finished just behind her, placing 14th with a score of 221.90. The duo's consistency helped bolster UNC's overall point total on day two.
Northern Colorado returns to action Saturday for the final day of competition, looking to close out the Magnus Cup on a high note.
