GREELEY, Colo. – The Northern Colorado women's basketball program is excited to welcome Lucy Mead to the program.
"Our focus in this recruiting class was to identify players who bring versatility, play making ability, and a competitive spirit to complement both our current roster and the future of UNC Women's Basketball. This group truly represents the epitome of the student-athlete — high-character young women who are class acts in every sense. Their work ethic, self-motivation, and team-first mentality will serve our program well both on and off the court. As with every recruiting class, I am extremely proud when a young woman chooses to become a Bear and embrace the opportunity to grow here at the University of Northern Colorado." Stated Head Coach, Kristen Mattio
Lucy, a versatile wing/forward from Sydney, Australia, joins the Bears with an impressive athletic background. The daughter of Annette and Malcom Mead.
A highly accomplished competitor, Lucy earned NSW State Team Gold Medals in 2022, 2024, and 2025. She also served as co-captain of the U18 NSW State Team in 2024 and represented Australia at the U15 level.
One of her favorite sports memories is winning the U16 Nationals for the first time. Lucy chose UNC because she immediately connected with the team and coaching staff, and she appreciated the strong, family-oriented culture the program has built.
"We are so excited to get Lucy Mead's commitment to UNC! Lucy is a dynamic 6'2" guard/forward who brings outstanding length and size at her position. She has the ability to put the ball on the floor and attack the rim, while also stretching the defense with her perimeter shooting. Lucy will also bring a tough nosed, defensive grit, and versatility to our program. She fits perfectly into our fast-paced style of play and can be a real threat in the open court — whether it's getting to the rim in transition or knocking down the open three. Lucy is a winner — she plays with poise, confidence, and a competitive edge that embodies what we value in our program. She is a great fit for our team, university, and the Greeley community. Lucy continues to elevate her game through hard work and determination, and we believe her best basketball is still ahead of her. Bear Country is going to love watching Lucy Mead in Blue and Gold!"- said Head Coach, Kristen Mattio
