FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Colorado soccer (2-8-4, 1-2-0) earned a hard-fought 1-0 road victory over Northern Arizona (4-2-5, 1-1-1) on Sunday afternoon, securing their first conference win of the season in a gritty and determined performance.
The Bears came out strong against a tough NAU squad in conference play, showing resilience and poise under pressure. The lone goal of the match came in the first half when junior Mia Norman delivered a stunning strike off a long-range free kick from midfield. The well-placed ball sailed over the defense and goalkeeper, tucking into the net for what would ultimately be the game-winner.
The goal marked Norman's third career tally and highlighted her ability to impact the game in different ways.
Defensively, Northern Colorado stood tall throughout the match. Goalkeeper Kaya Lindberg, supported by a disciplined and organized back line, weathered multiple waves of offensive pressure from the Lumberjacks. The Bears' defense held firm in the final stretch, fending off late surges to preserve the clean sheet.
"Great win for us on the road — we got great efforts from a ton of players," said Head Coach Tim Barrera. "I'm really proud of how the team stepped up, handled early pressure, and generated attacking opportunities."
With the win, Northern Colorado gains valuable momentum as they continue their Big Sky Conference slate, looking to build on this performance.
UP NEXT
The Bears will return home and host Portland State on Sunday, October 12.
