GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado Soccer (3-9-5, 2-3-1 Big Sky) came up just short on Sunday afternoon, falling 1-0 to Weber State (10-6-1, 4-2-1) at Jackson Stadium.
The Wildcats jumped ahead early, finding the back of the net in the fifth minute when Presley Ray scored off a feed from Oakley Anderson. Despite the quick strike, the Bears' defense settled in and held Weber State scoreless for the remaining 85 minutes.
Goalkeeper Kaya Lindberg turned in another strong performance between the posts, recording five saves to keep Northern Colorado within striking distance. The Bears registered seven shots on the day, three of which were on target, while earning five corner kicks.
Lexi Tuite led the Bears offensively with a pair of shots, including one on goal. Sunnie Yarnell and Mia Norman also tested the Weber State keeper.
Northern Colorado fought hard through a physical second half, which saw two yellow cards issued to the Bears late in the match. However, the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
UP NEXT
The Bears will hit the road for their final two regular-season conference matchups, beginning in Moscow, Idaho, against Idaho on Friday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. MDT (6 p.m. PDT), before closing out the weekend in Cheney, Washington, to face Eastern Washington on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m. MDT (12 p.m. PDT).
