FARMINGTON, Utah – Northern Colorado's Cam Chapa has been named the Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning.
The weekly honor marks the second of Chapa's career and the third time this season a Bear has earned the conference's Defensive Player of the Week distinction.
In Northern Colorado's thrilling 56-49 upset victory over No. 11 Idaho, safety Cam Chapa anchored the defense with 10 tackles and an interception, which he returned 43 yards. The sophomore also added a tackle for a one-yard loss, helping the Bears secure their notably biggest win in the Division I era.
Chapa's dominant effort also earned him honorable mention for the Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week, adding to his growing list of accolades.
This marks the fourth weekly honor overall during head coach Ed Lamb's tenure (third season) and the third of the 2025 campaign, with Northern Colorado earning recognition in consecutive weeks. Notably, all four of the Bears' weekly awards under Lamb have come on the defensive side of the ball.
Northern Colorado (3-3, 1-1 Big Sky) travels to face Sacramento State (2-3, 0-1 Big Sky) on Saturday at Hornet Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. MDT on ESPN+.
