Hawthorne Named UNC Student-Athlete of the Week

GREELEY, Colo. – Isaiah Hawthorne earned the Luna's Taco UNC Student-Athlete of the Week honor, with his performance in Northern Colorado's victory over Eastern Washington Saturday, the athletics communications staff announced Monday.
Hawthorne, a graduate student from Tracy, California, returned after missing the game at Idaho Thursday, Jan. 23, with an illness and dropped 32 points, with a team-high seven boards against the Eagles.
His 32 points ranked second in the Big Sky for a single game this season. Hawthorne hit 10 of 16 (63%) from the floor, including 4 of 6 (67%) from 3-point range and added 8 of 10 at the free-throw line.
With the win, UNC matched the best start in Big Sky Conference play through the first eight games, equaling the 2010-11 squad that opened league action at 7-1.
Hawthorne and the rest of the Bears return to action Saturday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. The contest against Northern Arizona kicks off a span of four games in an eight-day span, with three of the contests at Bank of Colorado Arena.
