Bears Blow Out WSU in Big Sky Opener

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado (9-5, 1-0 Big Sky) blew out Weber State (6-9, 0-1 Big Sky) 89-72 at Bank of Colorado Arena Thursday.
The Bears delivered a couple body blows in the opening 20 minutes before landing the knockout punch in the second half of the Big Sky opener for both sides.
UNC ran off 12-straight points, doubling up the Wildcats 24-12 at 11:23 of the first half. The Bears methodically pushed the margin out to 48-29 at the half, running off 24 of the final 41 points.
In the opening 20 minutes, UNC knocked down 65% from the floor and held the Wildcats to 38%.
Weber State outscored the Bears 20-12 over the first six minutes of the second half and closed to within 11, at 60-49.
UNC absorbed the charge by the visitors from Utah and responded with an 18-5 spurt and opened its largest advantage at 78-54, with 5:38 left. The Bears held at least a 15-point gap the rest of the contest.
Isaiah Hawthorne posted a game-high 17 points, with five assists and three rebounds. Brock Wisne tallied 16 points on 7 of 10 shooting. Langston Reynolds recorded 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Marcell McCreary inked 10 points on 3 of 5 from the field, including 2 of 2 from 3-point range.
