GREELEY, Colo. – The University of Northern Colorado volleyball program has added setter Nerea Álvarez Jorge, head coach Lindsey Oates announced Friday. Álvarez Jorge, a transfer from Northeastern Junior College, will join the Bears for the spring semester and is expected to make an immediate impact.
Álvarez Jorge (pronounced Neh-REH-ah AHL-vah-reth HOR-heh) brings extensive experience to the team, including international competition and a decorated collegiate career. She fills a key position for the Bears following the graduation of the 2024 class.
"Nerea is a very veteran setter, which is what we were looking for in replacing big shoes at that position," Oates said. "With her international experience and success at NJC, she is ready to help us. She is incredibly consistent with her location and has a great IQ as well. We are excited that she will be with us during the offseason to learn our system and hitters."

She was named Region IX Setter of the Year in both seasons and helped lead NJC to a Region IX championship in 2024.
Álvarez Jorge's leadership and precision on the court were instrumental in her team's success, including an undefeated conference season in 2024 and a home victory in the Region IX tournament.
Her accolades include:

In addition to her collegiate success, Álvarez Jorge has competed internationally, showcasing a strong volleyball IQ and advanced skills developed in Spain.
