FARMINGTON, Utah – Kaya Lindberg earned her first Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season, league officials announced Tuesday.
"Congrats to Kaya on a great weekend," head coach Tim Barrera said. "She was strong and steady and really stepped up against an Iowa State team that had scored 15 goals in six matches and 10 in their last three. Getting the first shutout of the year on the road at a Big 12 opponent is a real testament to our entire defensive effort. I am really proud of how well organized we were and the effort and confidence that we played with."
Lindberg, a Rancho Palos Verdes, California junior, picked up the accolade – the second of her career - after registering her first clean sheet of the season in Northern Colorado's 1-0 victory at Iowa State Sunday.
She stopped eight of the 10 shots on goal she faced in two matches last week, raising her save percentage to .720, fifth in the Big Sky. Lindberg leads the league with 36 stops and the most minutes played, with 360.
Up Next
The Bears return to Jackson Stadium for a two-match homestand, beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. against South Dakota.
