GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado showed off the program's future in its opening act Thursday at Jackson Field.
Of the 22 Bears that logged minutes against Air Force in the season opener for both squads, six sophomores saw action and five freshmen made their collegiate debut.
Sophomores Lexi Tuite and Anneliese Wong accounted for the three UNC shots in the 4-0 setback. Sunnie Yarnell, a rookie from Greeley's Northridge High School cracked the starting lineup for UNC.
Yarnell, Samantha Carter, Lauryn Maggio, Ava Marshall and Preslie Young appeared in their first collegiate fixture. Maddie Smith made the start in goal for UNC, the sixth of her career and registered the second most saves in her career in a single game with six.

UNC continues its three-match homestand to open the campaign Monday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. against South Dakota State.
