GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado earned the 2024 American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award, sponsored by INTENT and AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll, the AVCA announced.
"We always strive to keep the student part first for our student-athletes," UNC head coach Lyndsey Oates said. "They have done an excellent job again this semester. I believe it was our highest GPA ever in my time at UNC with a 3.74."
The Bears claimed the award for the 17th time overall, including the last 13 seasons. Northern Colorado's 17 awards rank 31st among the 348 Division I programs, while the 13 consecutive seasons place the Bears 21st.
The team academic award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale), to earn the award for their classroom excellence during the recently completed academic year. UNC posted a cumulative GPA of 3.74 over the 2023-24 academic year.
The additional distinction of Team Academic Honor Roll celebrates programs in the top 20% of GPAs for their division.
