TULSA, Okla. – Murphy Gienger followed the manuscript from Northern Colorado's win in the Summit League Championship but it wasn't enough Thursday at J. L. Johnson Stadium.
Gienger allowed solo tallies in the fourth and fifth innings, scattering five hits and four walks, with three strikeouts over 7.0 innings of work. He worked out of several dangerous situations by holding the Golden Eagles to 1-of-8, with two outs and 1-of-10, with runners on base.
Carter Monda and Sam Pease recorded the two hits for UNC, while Caden Wagner and Jake King reached by a base-on-balls.
The pitcher's dual through seven innings erupted in the bottom of the eighth when Oral Roberts sent 16 hitters to the plate, with 12 scoring.
UNC faces North Dakota State in an elimination game Friday at 3 p.m., with the winner meeting Oral Roberts in the championship round Saturday. The Bison overcame a 5-0, ninth-inning deficit against Omaha and held off elimination 7-5 Thursday.
