Kai Wagner Collects Weekly Honor

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Kai earned the TicketSmarter Summit League Baseball Peak Performer of the Week, league officials announced Monday.
"Great to see Kai excel at such a high level after having a mid-season injury," head coach Mike Anderson said. "His toughness and leadership were on display the second half of the season. This recognition is well deserved.
The sophomore from Parker, Colorado collected the fifth weekly honor for the Bears this season, becoming the first with multiple awards. He helped UNC to its first Summit League Tournament since joining the league in baseball in 2022, with a 2-1 series win over North Dakota State in Fargo Thursday, May 16 – Saturday May 18.
In the three-game series, Wagner hit .538 (7-for-13), including one double and two home runs. He slugged 1.077, with six runs scored and seven RBIs. He reached five times in seven plate appearances, including two home runs and two walks, with five RBIs and four runs scored in the series finale.
After the strong weekend, he heads into the tournament with the best batting average in the league (.360), while his slugging percentage ranks fourth (.620) and his OPS ranks third (1.048).

Wagner and the Bears, seeded fourth in the Summit League Tournament, open against top-seeded Omaha at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Tulsa, Oklahoma, May 22-25. No. 2 North Dakota State and No. 3 Oral Roberts face off at 6 p.m. on the Golden Eagles home field.
