Alirez Continues Pursuit of His Olympic Dream

GREELEY, Colo. – Andrew Alirez's road to the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France, continues Friday and Saturday at the Olympic Team Trials – hosted by Penn State – at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Alirez will compete in the men's freestyle at 65kg. He is seeded fourth in the 13-man bracket and will receive a first-round bye. The bracket includes World Team member Nick Lee, both the 2024 NCAA 141-pound champion Jesse Mendez and runner-up Beau Bartlett, 2022 World silver medalist Yianni Diakomihalis and Zain Retherford, who earned a berth directly to the semi-finals by winning gold at the 2023 World Team event at 70kg.

Friday, April 19
8 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Mountain – Session I – Challenge Tournament Preliminaries, Quarterfinals and Consolation for all styles and weight classes. (Note: All Championship Matches will be held before the consolation rounds.)
4:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. Mountain – Session II – Challenge Tournament Semifinals and Finals, all styles and weight classes.
Saturday, April 20
8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Mountain – Session III – Round One of the Best-of-Three Championship Series, all styles and weight classes, plus Round Two of Best-of-Three Championship Series in the five weight classes not yet qualified for the Olympics. Also, the completion of the Challenge Tournament consolation semifinals, consolation finals, third-place bouts and True third (if necessary).
4:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. Mountain – Session IV – Round Three of the Best-of-the-Three Championship Series (if necessary) in the five weight classes not yet qualified for the Olympics.
Round Two and Round Three follow (if necessary) in the 13 weight classes qualified for the Olympics. The session concludes with the presentation of the U.S. Olympic Team.
