GREELEY, Colo. – Jake Carvajal tossed 4.0 scoreless innings – the longest outing of his career – in UNC's 7-2 loss against St. Thomas (8-10, 3-0 Summit League) at Jackson Field Sunday.
The Dallas, Texas, native retired 11 of the 12 batters he faced, including the last nine. He allowed one hit and matched a career-high, with five strikeouts.
Carter Monda led the offense, recording a double in three at-bats, driving in both runs for the Bears (0-19, 0-3 Summit League). Garret Fisher and Brandon Sanchez added a base knock each, while Caden Wagner reached twice by base-on-balls. Jake King and Carson Gross worked a walk each.
Logan Moser started on the hill for UNC and allowed four runs on 10 hits and a base-on-balls while fanning one. He surrendered all four runs in the first but kept his team in the contest by posting zeros in his final three frames, sitting down 10 of the final 12 batters he faced.
With two outs in the fifth and two on Monda drove the 2-2 offering down the right field line, scoring Gross from second, with Sam Pease following from first. Gross reached with a one-out walk and moved up 90 feet on a hit-by-pitch from Pease.
