Northern Colorado Crushes Lipscomb in Season Opener

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The defending Big Sky Champion Northern Colorado softball team opened its season with a convincing 10-1 win over Lipscomb.
After a scoreless first inning, UNC broke the game open in the second inning.
Nya Chacon singled to push across a run and Sabrina Javorsky followed that with a ground out to second base to score Chacon from third base. Jayden Gandert scored on a wild pitch and Amailee Morales delivered a 2-RBI double to center field and the Bears led 4-0.
The Bears added runs in the third and fourth innings and the Bears led 8-1.
In UNC's part of the fifth inning, the Bears' offense scored three runs, which culminated with Morales' RBI single up the middle, and the game was called due to the 5-inning, 8-run rule.
Erin Caviness was dominant in the circle. Caviness tossed 5.0 innings, scattered 3 hits, allowed 1 unearned run, and fanned 8 batters.

Utah Tech defeated UNC 5-1.
Morales delivered her first home run in the fourth inning, which was a solo shot to right-center field.
