GREELEY, Colo. – Five Northern Colorado student-athletes scored in double digits, and the Bears defeated Weber State 72-64 Thursday evening in Big Sky Conference action from the Bank of Colorado Arena.

Senior Delaynie Byrne dropped a game-high 19 points and picked up seven rebounds. Sophomore Gabi Fields scored a season-high 15 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the field.

True freshman Tatum West, sophomore Seneca Hackley, and senior Hannah Simental each added 10 points.

The Bears led most of the contest (38:21) and by 16 points at the midway point of the third quarter.

Inside the box score

The Bears dominated in front of the basket with 30 points in the paint and 32 rebounds.

11 of the 32 rebounds were on the offensive glass, and the Bears scored 13 second-chance points.

UNC found success in fastbreak opportunities with 13 points.

After one-quarter of play, UNC led 17-16, but the Bears exploded in the second quarter and outscored the Wildcats 26-17 and shot 62.5 percent (10-for-16) from the field.

For the game, UNC shot 49 percent (25-for-41) from the field.

The Bears found success at the free-throw line, converting 92.9 percent (13-for-14) of their attempts.

The UNC defense put its clamps down on WSU in the third quarter, holding the Wildcats to just 30 percent (3-for-10) from the floor.

Series notes

UNC improves to 26-8 all-time versus Weber State.

The Bears have extended their winning streak to 10 in a row over the Wildcats, which is the longest in series history.

UNC improves to 14-3 all-time at BOCA versus WSU.

The Bears improve to 14-13 overall and 9-7 in league play, while WSU falls to 7-22 overall and 4-12.

With two conference games remaining, the Bears are currently in fifth place. One game behind Montana State and two games ahead of Idaho State.
