Bears Fall in Opener at Tarleton State

The Bears (0-5) registered six base knocks, including four of the extra-base variety in the 14-4 loss to the Texans (3-2). Jake King and Brandon Sanchez joined Wagner with a two-bagger each. Wagner recorded the first double of the season in the fourth and matched the feat in his next at-bat in the sixth.
Zinicola, Sanchez and King drove in the team's four runs in the seventh with extra-base hits in succession.
After Carson Gross and Garrett Fisher led off the final frame with back-to-back free passes. The pair plated the Bears' first two runs when Zinicola tripled. He jogged home when Sanchez doubled down the right-field line. Sanchez scored on an RBI double to right center by King.
Dylan Smith registered his second start on the hill for the Bears.
The Texans tallied runs in five of the seven frames, opening with two in the first. They added five in the second and three in the third. Tarleton State tacked on two in the fifth and seventh frames.

UNC and the Texans continue the four-game series with a doubleheader Saturday, beginning at noon MT.
