UNC Sweeps Season Series Against Portland State

GREELEY, Colo. – Syd Cole orchestrated a balanced attack as Northern Colorado (19-7, 10-2) swept Portland State (25-17, 25-14, 25-16) at Bank of Colorado Arena Saturday.
Cole dished out 29 assists to six different Bears attackers and went 5 for 5 in attack attempts. She added six digs and one service ace.
UNC hit .356 (42-11-87) and held the Vikings to a .136 (27-15-88) hitting percentage.
The Bears scored six of the first seven points, built an early cushion, and cruised to an opening set win.
Leading 14-12 in game two, UNC rattled off 11 of the final 13 points and grabbed a commanding 2-0 advantage at the break.
An attack error by the Bears in game three trimmed the gap to 7-6. They methodically increased their advantage with a 12-8 run and Portland State called a time-out at 19-14. Following the stoppage, UNC secured the sweep with a 6-2 spurt.
Brynn Reines, Maddie Davies and Gabi Placide tied for the team lead with eight kills. Annette Baker added seven, while Cole and Isabel Bennett inked five a piece.
Donning the libero jersey, Sam Steele dug out a game-high 16 attacks. Davies notched three blocks, while Reines, Bennett and Placide accounted for one each.
