Bears Dominate at Drexel

PHILADELPHIA – No. 19 Northern Colorado (1-1) cruised to a 29-16 victory over Drexel (0-3) at the Daskalakis Athletic Center Friday.
The Bears jumped out to a 15-0 lead, with bonus point wins in the first three bouts. UNC won six of the 10 matches, tallying at least four points in five triumphs.
A forfeit victory for Stevo Poulin handed UNC six free points and the early lead.
No. 22 Dominick Serrano pushed the margin to 10-0 with a major decision victory. He opened a 9-2 victory with three takedowns in the opening round. Serrano outscored his opponent 4-2 in the middle frame, before surrendering an offensive point in the final stanza.
No. 1 Andrew Alirez dominated his opponent, collecting a 22-5 tech fall. He tallied seven takedowns and surrendered no offensive points for the second time in two duals of the year.
Following a win by Drexel at 149 pounds, No. 16 Vincent Zerban pushed the advantage out to 20-4, with a tech fall. After building a 6-1 lead after the opening frame, Zerban earned a reversal and takedown in the second frame pushing the gap out to 10.
No. 30 Clayton Ulrey picked up a hard-fought 3-2 result, moving the team total to 23-4. Scoreless through two periods, Ulrey fell behind with an escape but secured the victory with a takedown.
A pinfall and two decisions for Drexel sliced the deficit to 23-16, with one bout remaining.
Leading 4-1, Remington Peterson closed the contest with a pinfall at the 5:55 mark.
