Women’s Basketball Hosts Utah State at the Bank of Colorado Arena

GREELEY, Colo. – The Northern Colorado women's basketball team (1-2) is slated to face the Utah State Aggies (0-2) on Sunday, Nov. 17, with tipoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Bank of Colorado Arena. UNC will host their annual canned food drive. Fans who bring five canned goods will receive a $5 general admission ticket.

USU leads the all-time series 10-6. Kristen Mattio is 1-0 against the Aggies in her time at the helm of the Bears while this is the first time Brooks will face the Bears as the head of the program. Scouting Utah State
The Aggies lost both games last week to Kansas City (80-77) and CSUN (69-65). USU was led by senior guard Cheyenne Stubbs in both games with 28 and 16 points. Juniors Mia Tarver and Jamisyn Heaton also had stand out performances, with Tarver scoring 13 and Heaton scoring 10 against Kansas City.
Head Coach Wesley Brooks is in his first season at the helm of the Aggies Women's Basketball program. Prior to Utah State, Brooks served as an assistant coach at The Ohio State University for three seasons where he helped the Buckeyes to a pair of Big Ten titles and three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances. He also had stints at Michigan, Utah, North Texas, Texas Southern and Robert Morris.
Cheyenne Stubbs is leading the team on both ends of the court, averaging 22.0 points per game on 40% shooting from the field and 44.4% from beyond the arc. She is also grabbing 7.0 boards per game has had seven total steals.
The Mattio Era
Head Coach Kristen Mattio enters her 4th season at the helm of Bears Basketball. Under Mattio, the Bears are 44-52 since she took over the program in 2020. Mattio is just two wins away from her 200th career victory and would be the first coach in program history to reach the 200-win mark.

Aniah Hall led UNC in their hard fought loss to Air Force (73-66) with a game-high 17 points and 13 rebounds. Neenah George provided efficient scoring with 10 points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting, contributing on both ends with two rebounds. Gabbi Fields chipped in 10 points, five assists and several clutch plays, while Ella Van Weelden added 10 points, including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc, and grabbed three rebounds.

The 2024-25 Big Sky Conference basketball schedule will feature 10 teams in a mirror schedule format. Each team will play each other twice: once at home, and once away.
The BSC Basketball Championships will feature all teams in the conference with seeding based on the 18 conference games. The championships will take place March 8-9-10-11-12, 2025, at the Idaho Central Arena in Boise, Idaho. The tournament winners will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship.
2023-24 Review
The Bears finished the season with a trip to the Women's National Invitational Tournament where they lost in the first round to the University of Texas at San Antonio. Delaynie Byrne dropped 14 points on 5-for-16 shooting from the floor and hauled seven rebounds. Aniah Hall paced the team in blocks with two and added 12 points, 6 rebounds, and four assists. They finished with a 15-16 overall record and 5th in the BSC.
