Hall and West Shine as Northern Colorado Dominates Utah State, 85-57

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado's junior forward Aniah Hall delivered another stellar performance with 19 points and four rebounds, while sophomore forward Tatum West achieved a career-high 14 rebounds to go along with her 14 points, as the Bears cruised to an 85-57 victory over Utah State on Sunday afternoon at the Bank of Colorado Arena. The win improves Northern Colorado to 2-2 on the season.
Top Performers
Aniah Hall led the Bears with 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting and added four rebounds, providing a consistent offensive presence. Tatum West recorded a double-double with 14 points and a career-best 14 rebounds, dominating on the glass. Ella Van Weelden came off the bench to contribute eight points on perfect shooting from beyond the arc and added two rebounds. Julia Riley filled the stat sheet with nine points and seven rebounds, while Gabi Fields chipped in nine points and four assists, facilitating Northern Colorado's efficient offensive performance.
The Breakdown
In the first quarter, Northern Colorado got off to a fast start with a 14-0 run. At 9:36, Tatum West scored the opening basket on a layup, putting UNC ahead 2-0. By 7:23, Hall capitalized on an offensive rebound with a putback layup to extend the lead to 7-0. Utah State responded with a three-pointer from Carlie Latta at 2:41, cutting the deficit to 20-15, but the Bears held on to their five-point lead at the buzzer.
The second quarter saw UNC take full control. At 9:12, Hall scored on a layup, increasing the lead to 26-18. Shortly after, West added two free throws at 7:36 to make it 28-18. Ella Van Weelden knocked down her first three-pointer of the game at 5:54, pushing the lead to 35-22. Northern Colorado's defense held Utah State to just 16.7% shooting in the quarter, allowing the Bears to extend their lead to 46-27 by halftime.
In the third quarter, the Bears continued to dominate. At 9:11, Gabi Fields scored a fast-break layup following a steal, giving UNC a commanding 50-27 advantage. Julia Riley hit a three-pointer at 2:56, extending the lead to 63-36. The Bears' relentless pressure and efficient shooting ensured they outscored the Aggies 19-10 in the period, taking a 65-37 lead into the final frame.
The fourth quarter was more of the same, with Northern Colorado maintaining their lead. At 6:18, Van Weelden hit another three-pointer to push the lead to 75-43. With 3:07 remaining, West grabbed an offensive rebound and converted a layup to make it 83-50, capping off her stellar performance. The Bears' reserves closed out the game, securing a decisive 85-57 victory.
Utah State Leaders
Carlie Latta paced the Aggies with 15 points and five rebounds, while Taliyah Logwood chipped in nine points. Utah State struggled offensively, shooting just 25.8% from the field and committing 19 turnovers.
