The Bears Welcome Air Force to the Bank of Colorado Arena for Military Appreciation Night

GREELEY, Colo. – The Northern Colorado women's basketball team (1-1) is set to face the Air Force Falcons (2-0) on Monday, Nov. 11, with tipoff at 6:00 p.m. at the Bank of Colorado Arena. In honor of Veterans Day, UNC will be celebrating local veterans during the game.

AF grabbed the lead in the all-time series last season, 22-23. Kristen Mattio is 0-1 against the Falcons in her time at the helm of the Bears while this is the first time meeting McIntyre will face the Bears as the head of the program. Last season was the first time the two teams met in the Mattio era. The Falcons won 68-60 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Scouting Air Force
The Falcons finished the 2023-24 season 15-17 overall, and 8-10 in the Mountain West Conference. Stacy McIntyre is in her first season at the helm of the women's basketball program. McIntyre was previously an assistant coach at Air Force for nine years under Chris Gobrecht. This season, the Falcons are 2-0 with wins over Regis and South Dakota.
In 2023-24, McIntyre and the Air Force staff led the Falcons to a 15-17 finish, going 8-10 against the Mountain West. The Falcons went 10-6 in Clune Arena, marking the second season in three years of 10 or more home victories. Air Force has 30 wins the past three seasons which accounts for more home victories than the prior 10 seasons combined.
The Falcons are led by Junior Milahnie Perry, who holds the current single-season scoring record at AF, totaling 535 points in the 2023-24 season. Perry is currently on pace to become Air Force's 19th all-time career 1000-point scorer.
The Mattio Era
Head Coach Kristen Mattio enters her 4th season at the helm of Bears Basketball. Under Mattio, the Bears are 44-51 since she took over the program in 2020. Mattio is just two wins away from her 200th career victory and would be the first coach in program history to reach the 200-win mark.
Last Time Out
UNC guards Silvia Nativi and Neenah George combined for 21 points, but the Bears fell short against Colorado, losing 81-66 on the road on Nov. 7. Nativi led with 13 points, hitting 5 of 6 shots, while George added 8 points off the bench. Despite early scoring runs and a strong first half, Northern Colorado's shooting cooled in the third quarter, allowing Colorado to extend its lead and secure the win.

Monday's game marks the sixth time the Bears have played on this date and the first since 2022. UNC is 2-3 all time on Nov. 7.

The 2024-25 Big Sky Conference basketball schedule will feature 10 teams in a mirror schedule format. Each team will play each other twice: once at home, and once away.
The BSC Basketball Championships will feature all teams in the conference with seeding based on the 18 conference games. The championships will take place March 8-9-10-11-12, 2025, at the Idaho Central Arena in Boise, Idaho. The tournament winners will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship.
2023-24 Review
The Bears finished the season with a trip to the Women's National Invitational Tournament where they lost in the first round to the University of Texas at San Antonio. Delaynie Byrne dropped 14 points on 5-for-16 shooting from the floor and hauled seven rebounds. Aniah Hall paced the team in blocks with two and added 12 points, 6 rebounds, and four assists. They finished with a 15-16 overall record and 5th in the BSC.
