BOSTON – Northern Colorado dropped a 3-1 result against Northeastern on the first day of the Northeastern Invitational at Cabot Center Thursday.
After dropping the first set, the Bears evened the match at 1-1 as the teams headed to intermission.
After the break, the teams swapped long runs at the service line, with the Huskies making the final spurt and moving in front two games to one. A trio of service aces by Mia Liddiard and a kill by Makenzie Harris forced a Northeastern timeout, trailing 9-2. Following a 17-10 run by the home team, UNC called its second timeout of the game, holding a tenuous advantage at 20-19. Both teams held a slim margin down the stretch, before back-to-back kills secured the game for the Huskies.
Northeastern capitalized on its comeback by collecting the first 10 points of game four. Like the previous set, UNC rallied and overtook the opposition 20-19. The Huskies claimed five of the next seven points and held three match points at 24-22, before a service error cut the gap to one. They earned the victory when the Bears returned the favor on the next point.
FROM THE COACH:
"This is a tough one for us," UNC Head Coach Lyndsey Oates said. "We spotted them too many points and then would make a comeback but could not close it out, which we are usually an incredibly good team in those situations. We will get back to work and I know we can again but with 18 service errors, it is hard to beat a good team. We shot ourselves in the foot tonight with errors and we will learn from it and get back at it tomorrow."

UNC Assists Leader: Syd Cole (40)
UNC Digs Leader: Bella LePore (16)
